When the sun is setting, between dusk and darkness, there is a moment when the light turns blue. And the world stops for a heartbeat.
It’s not the first time I mention pasta as a saviour of a long evening. It’s been busy few weeks at work, and sometimes just cooking dinner becomes a challenge (Stuart is travelling again and thus being no help…) – and I’m not even mentioning the challenge of taking the daily photo. Sometimes you can combine both.
Our neighbourhood has a lot of beautiful, mature trees. And they attract a lot of birds. Throughout the year we can listen to an almost continuous bird song – not all of it pretty, but nevertheless.
On a lazy Sunday afternoon (or any other quiet moment really), you never see Stuart without a book or newspaper in his hand. (at least in digital format as in here…) It is OK though – you won’t often catch me without mine either.
Being from Finland, having three lemon trees in my garden has always felt special. Growing citrus tress is not exactly possible in the cold and dark north. Our lemons are nto even ‘normal lemons’, but Meyer lemons – a mix between naartjie and lemon.
The first home-lemons for this year are slowly ripening again. Just a little longer…
Some people obsess over bags, shoes, or ties. For me it’s jewellery. One can never have enough of interesting, quirky, and colourful jewellery. Luckily, I don’t really want diamonds – I would just worry I’ll lose them. This helps to maintain some sort of sensible budget.
Travelling is fun, but then there is home.
Me and Stuart both love reading. We both started using Kindles after just a few weeks of living together, as we quickly started running out of wall space. Both of us love buying books and would never sell one – not a combination that works in the normal-sized houses. Nowadays we only buys cookbooks and travel books – everything else is digital.
So today’s photo is an experiment on long exposure photography to celebrate the spirit of reading.
After I moved to South Africa, wine automatically became a big part of my environment. After I met my husband, I even learned something about it. (Although I still let him to choose our wines, as his knowledge greatly exceeds mine.) Our bar at home is always filled with good bottles, big glasses, and little gadgets.
I’m starting run out of ‘easy’ targets in the home for these weeks when I get home late and tired. Some still remain. This picture highlights the main colors we have in our home – white, black and red, with some orange thrown in the mix.

When it’s cold, Merlin loves to snooze snuggled up in the blanket. Luckily he doesn’t mind sharing. The closer he can snooze to the humans, the better.
