Friday. Wine.
When the sun is setting, between dusk and darkness, there is a moment when the light turns blue. And the world stops for a heartbeat.
Friday. Wine.
As mentioned before, both Stuart and I are passionate readers. We both get through at least 1-2 books a week – but unfortunately never read the same books. We have the same taste in almost everything, but books. Therefore, we both have to go through the pain of finding what to read next – every week.
From my painting days, I still have the little “model doll” on my table. There is something satisfying in twisting it to different positions every few days. A slow and still dance.
I love scarfs. What is there not to love? They are colourful, practical, easy-to-carry and always in fashion. I admit, I have a few… dozen… And one or two extra, just in case.
On some days playing guitar can be frustrating to Stuart. On others it seems to sing in his hands. Both ways, it is a passion. Albeit one he doesn’t have as much time as he’d like.
The perfect teacup is big enough to hold with two hands comfortably. Smaller cups can never bring that feel of warmth. And the perfect teacup is yellow.
We had a perfect, peaceful Sunday. We snuggled under a blanket in the terrace with a hot drink and a book – for several hours. And that feeling of peace continued to that elusive heartbeat just before darkness. Blue Moment.
When I was a kid, I used to dabble with paints and drawing. One day my mum brought me these amazingly beautiful water colours from China. One set was black, and the other with all the different colours. My fingers have been itching for more than a decade now to use them, but I just can’t. They are way too beautiful to use.
Walking around the garden today, I came across these tiny little flower buds. And I mean tiny! They were maybe half a cm across. And yet they were braving the freezing night temperatures of Joburg. I’m sure there is a life lesson here somewhere, but I just took the photo.
Few years ago, South Africa suffered from a series of blackouts, as the energy supply was not sufficient. The situation sparked innovation in how to (safely!) light up homes without electricity. My favourite was this solar panel light set in a glass jar. Surprisingly effective and very cute, they are still in use, although we haven’t had a blackout in while. (Knock on wood!)
