When the sun is setting, between dusk and darkness, there is a moment when the light turns blue. And the world stops for a heartbeat.
Passion for cooking comes with a lot of spices. A lot. Especially when one enjoys different cuisines, each with their own flavour map. When we moved to our new house, one of my favourite things was to get a drawer just for all of the jars. It makes them so much easier to find.
To continue celebrating Stuart’s birthday, we went to watch ‘Pricilla – the Queen of the Desert’ – the Musical. The show was crazier and more fun I could’ve wished for. At the end, the entire audience was at their feet. So great!
Stuart had a birthday this weekend. We celebrated in a new Mexican restaurant in town, and loved every morsel of it. The restaurant had this funky bar with an amazing tequila selection. Forgot to take a photo of the food, tho.
It’s been an incredibly busy week, and not only have I not posted for over a week, I missed few days of photos in between… But all I can do is get back to the rhythm and try to do better in the future.
The photo of the day 46 is of a weather monitoring station nearby our house. Over the last year the vines and trees have taken over it – making it a little cube of green.
I try to work from home about once a week. I don’t live very close to the office, so working from home gives me quite a lot of extra time to the day. I spent a little bit of that extra time today to make myself a great prawn salad for lunch – and to eat it outside on the terrace in the sunshine. Tough times!
Merlin and I went to search the autumn colours today. No native trees in SA seem to turn colourful, so these gorgeous reds, yellows and oranges are all from imported trees. But there is quite a selection of those too. Johannesburg has so many planted trees it is actually classified as the world’s largest man-made forest.
Stuart is away for the week, so my dinners are a bit more simple. Pasta with good pesto is a weekday savior. With some good parmesan.
While I went shopping today (not something I was not very excited about), I dropped Merlin off for a ‘playdate’ at friend’s house (Remember Merlin’s best friend, Jozi from day 21?). The main benefit from taking Merlin there for a day is that he is exhausted afterwards and requires no attention, thus leaving me to read – or edit photos.
While on a walk, we came across these massive flowers – every flower was almost as big as my head. As it often happens, the photos I took were no match for the reality, so I’ll just post this one with an interesting focus effect. I’ll go back and try again.
Live music, drinks, friends and bales of hay. What else could you need for a nice night out?
