We had a perfect, peaceful Sunday. We snuggled under a blanket in the terrace with a hot drink and a book – for several hours. And that feeling of peace continued to that elusive heartbeat just before darkness. Blue Moment.

Day 78 – Light in a Jar
Few years ago, South Africa suffered from a series of blackouts, as the energy supply was not sufficient. The situation sparked innovation in how to (safely!) light up homes without electricity. My favourite was this solar panel light set in a glass jar. Surprisingly effective and very cute, they are still in use, although we haven’t had a blackout in while. (Knock on wood!)
Day 73 – There is work travel and…
Stellenbosch. Wine, mountains, sun and great company. Not a bad place to travel for work.
Day 72 – Better than being in the office
I travelled to Stellenbosch today for few meetings. Lunchtime I spent frantically finalising some materials in the street side restaurant – but it sure beats being cooped up in the office.
Day 41 – Yellow and pink
While on a walk, we came across these massive flowers – every flower was almost as big as my head. As it often happens, the photos I took were no match for the reality, so I’ll just post this one with an interesting focus effect. I’ll go back and try again.
Day 39 – Quirky little town of Cullinan
An hour’s drive from Johannesburg is a little town built around a (still active) diamond mine. The old town is a centre of antiquing and quirky little restaurants, all located in old, restored buildings from the time the mine originally opened. It’s a cute place, and on a glorious afternoon well worth a drive for lunch.
Day 33 – Autumn
As days get shorter and mornings crisper, I miss Finland. And not only because it is spring there… The autumn colors in Finland can be magnificent. But there is beauty in African autumn too.
Day 29 – Breede
Breede river is an amazingly beautiful area. With the ongoing drought in the Western Cape, it is like a little oasis in the middle of desert.
Day 27 – Pure joy
River, boat and the ‘Alligator’. That’s all.
Day 26 – Duck
For this Easter trip, we stayed at a farm, with a whole range of animals from bulls to monkeys to meerkats – and even a coyote. Merlin’s favourites were the ducks (or the alpacas – it was a close call). Merlin was definitely not the duck’s favourite.
