The perfect teacup is big enough to hold with two hands comfortably. Smaller cups can never bring that feel of warmth. And the perfect teacup is yellow.

When the sun is setting, between dusk and darkness, there is a moment when the light turns blue. And the world stops for a heartbeat.

When I was a kid, I used to dabble with paints and drawing. One day my mum brought me these amazingly beautiful water colours from China. One set was black, and the other with all the different colours. My fingers have been itching for more than a decade now to use them, but I just can’t. They are way too beautiful to use.
Few years ago, South Africa suffered from a series of blackouts, as the energy supply was not sufficient. The situation sparked innovation in how to (safely!) light up homes without electricity. My favourite was this solar panel light set in a glass jar. Surprisingly effective and very cute, they are still in use, although we haven’t had a blackout in while. (Knock on wood!)
Today has been a day from culinary heaven – asparagus, pancetta & qruyere quiche, tomato & basil sorbet – and cold-smoked salmon (!). It is a taste of Finland. And I still have about 1.5kg of it in the freezer.
The most interesting culinary experience was, though, the cold-smoked chocolate ice cream I made from cream I smoked with the fish. It was eye-rollingly good. I dare you to taste.
Ally and Chris – thank you for being (again) the guinea pigs!
I focused much more on cooking than on photography, but just for the fun of it, below are a few pics of the food.

Some people obsess over bags, shoes, or ties. For me it’s jewellery. One can never have enough of interesting, quirky, and colourful jewellery. Luckily, I don’t really want diamonds – I would just worry I’ll lose them. This helps to maintain some sort of sensible budget.
While waiting in a restaurant, I was playing around with my camera. This picture of a water glass captured my interest with the weird effect of light and shadow.
After I moved to South Africa, wine automatically became a big part of my environment. After I met my husband, I even learned something about it. (Although I still let him to choose our wines, as his knowledge greatly exceeds mine.) Our bar at home is always filled with good bottles, big glasses, and little gadgets.
I’m starting run out of ‘easy’ targets in the home for these weeks when I get home late and tired. Some still remain. This picture highlights the main colors we have in our home – white, black and red, with some orange thrown in the mix.
Long days at work lead to last minute pictures of whatever you can find in the office.
Passion for cooking comes with a lot of spices. A lot. Especially when one enjoys different cuisines, each with their own flavour map. When we moved to our new house, one of my favourite things was to get a drawer just for all of the jars. It makes them so much easier to find.
