When the sun is setting, between dusk and darkness, there is a moment when the light turns blue. And the world stops for a heartbeat.
Company meet-ups can be a great place to pull your head out of the daily rat race and deal with things you never have time to solve.
This year we tested “speed dating” – two teams at a time, 30 minutes. Task: solve one problem in every meeting.
Surprisingly useful.
It’s a pity how rarely you actually go to any of the cool spots in Helsinki in your day-to-day life.
Foreign visitors are always a great excuse.
The older I get, the less likely I am to order a steak in a restaurant. It’s heavy. And often quite boring.
But a really, really good steak?

Somewhat by accident Alanna, Kiara and I ended up in Design Week’s kids’ workshop.
The girls got to design fashionable outfits, new houses and a – best of all – a mascot that they could then program to make sounds, flash lights, or show images.
An accident to repeat.
Every year, the terraces of Helsinki seem to collude to invent one new drink or ingredient. This year it’s rhubarb – and, more specifically, the Rhubarb Spritz.
Luckily it’s rather good.
I’ve had quite a few.
Finland has fantastic museums for kids. In fact, almost all museums here have something specifically for children to do.
Helsinki City Museum is a good example with a whole section of historical play areas. And the theater section has a puppet stage.
Great stories were born this day!
The only thing fire drills really teach us is to finish our lunch and pack our bags before evacuating.
Walking meetings are the best kind of meetings. You end up having very different 1:1s while walking around the neighborhood than you do sitting in front of your laptop.
Every time I do one, I decide to do them more often.
Then I don’t.
We had a very relaxed office afterwork today. The weather was fantastic, so we ditched some other plans, headed to the park with picnic blankets, and ordered pizzas. To top it all off, the coworking space we work in had some beers that were about to expire. We were happy to dispose of them.
After several shorter nights, I was planning to leave early. But it was pretty easy to convince me otherwise. Again.
Another day, more trains. Again to Kokkola.
So, I continue my series of images from Helsinki railway station. The Lantern Carriers outside the front entrance are often dressed and decorated to reflect whatever is happening in the city. For now they are back on their basic clothing.
